Lake Activity Permits

Lake Activity Permits on Belton Lake

Fishing Tournaments

All fishing tournaments on Belton Lake are required to have a Lake Activity Permit (LAP). There is currently no cost for a LAP. The permit is required to assist us with controlling overcrowding of park/lake facilities. Permits are limited and are issued on a First Come First Served basis. The number of permits are regulated through the Belton Lake Office.

Most fishing tournaments held at Temple’s Lake Park or Cedar Ridge Park will require that the Group Shelter be rented as the headquarters/weigh-in location. Exceptions to this policy for small tournaments may be granted on a case-by-case basis. Proof of rental must presented to this office prior to the LAP being approved. Large tournaments as identified by the Lake Manager may be required to have the weigh-in location off Corps property.

If you or your organization wish to have a tournament you must request a LAKE ACTIVITY PERMIT by filling out a Lake Activity Permit Request Form a minimum of 3 days (14 days in advance is preferred) to 365 days in advance prior to the date of the event. Each request will be evaluated for potential adverse impact on public safety, park facilities & utility systems, sanitation and natural resources.

Group Events

Vehicle and Person Capacity limits are strictly enforced. If your gathering may exceed these limits or is an event requiring use of any other park amenity such as a boat ramp, picnic, beach or parking area, you may be required to have a Lake Activity Permit (LAP). Events requiring a LAP, in addition to above include, but are not limited to, fishing tournaments, sporting events and any event where attendees are required to pay a fee to attend, prizes are awarded or the nature of the event (i.e wedding, bouncey or water events, rock climbing walls, etc.) may infringe or disrupt the use of the park or portion of the park (other than the group pavilion area) by the general public.

Permit requests for water slides at the pavilions on Belton Lake may be approved if they are using misters (restricted water flow) and limited volumes in the pools. Tarps will be used to limit damages to the environment. Open hoses or free flow systems will not be permitted unless they are equipped with a re-circulating pump, and large volume events will be dealt with on a case by case basis (typically if approved will require an independent water source). The event may be shut down if a ranger finds that these restrictions are not being followed.
