Corps Parks at Whitney Lake

Whitney Lake provides some excellent facilities for camping and picnicing. Click on one of the parks below to learn about the different parks.

Cedar Creek Park

Cedar creek park

Location

Cedar Creek Park is located on the east side of Whitney Lake off of FM 2604.

Facilities

Cedar Creek Park has 20 camp/picnic sites with a ground cooker/fire ring. Water faucets are located throughout the park. There is one restroom (with toilet facilities only) and one, double lane boat ramp in the park. There is also one group pavilion available in the park, available on a first-come, first-served basis. More information on the Cedar Creek Group Pavilion and other group facilities is available at Whitney Lake Office..

Fees

Camping, picnicking, and boat launching facilities are free. The group pavilion is available at no charge, and is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Cedron Creek Park

Cedron creek park

Location

Cedron Creek Park is located on the west side, approximately halfway up the lake on FM 1713.

Seasonal Closure

The campground is usually closed from October 1 to March 31 each year.

Facilities

There are 57 sites in Cedron Creek Park. All sites have water and 30 amp electrical hookups. All sites also have an upright BBQ cooker and a ground cooker/fire ring. The park also has two restrooms with showers, one small restroom with toilet facilities only, horseshoe pits, a trailer dump station, and a double lane boat ramp. A group camp area that contains eight campsites with water and 30 amp electrical hookups and a group pavilion may be reserved by calling NRRS or at www.recreation.gov . Boat Launching

People not camping (or visiting someone who is camping) in the park will have to pay a $3 fee per day to use the boat ramps. Campers and their visitors do not have to pay a separate launch fee.

Day Use Pass/Golden Age/Access Passports

A convenient $30 annual day use pass may be purchased that will allow use of the boat ramp without paying a fee at the gatehouse. The day use pass can be used at any Corps of Engineers Park in the nation that charges a day use fee (i.e.. boat launch and swimming beach fees). The pass may be purchased from most Corps of Engineers gatehouses.

The use of a Golden Age or Golden Access Passport or America the Beautiful Age or Disability Pass will cut all fees mentioned above in half. Golden Age and Golden Access passed are no longer issued, but we will continue to honor current pass holders. For more information on America the Beautiful passes, click here .

Kimball Bend

Location

Kimball Bend Park is located on the north end of the lake off of State Highway 174.

Facilities

Kimball Bend Park has 35 camp/picnic sites and one restroom. There is a boat ramp located at the park.

Kimball Bend Park Renovations Update

  • The new park entrance road complex is complete and open for use.
  • The new boat ramp access road is complete and allows boaters to access the boat ramp area through the park. The new road crosses under the Hwy 174 bridge. (Note: The original entrance to boat ramp area has been closed. Visitors can no longer access the boat ramp area directly from Hwy 174).

Lofers Bend Day Use

Location

Lofers Bend Day Use Park is a very popular day use area and is conveniently located adjacent to the Whitney Dam on State Highway 22. The main entrance to Lofers Bend Park is located on the east end of the Whitney Dam. After turning into the main entrance, follow the signs to the day use area.

Facilities

The park contains one of the two swimming beaches on the lake and also has a large boat ramp, 12 picnic tables with BBQ grills, and two sand volleyball courts. There is also a large restroom with showers located within the park.

Fees

From March 1 to September 30 each year, it costs $3 per day to use the launching ramp and $1 per person (but no more than $4 per vehicle) per day to use the swim beach area. No fees are charged from October 1 to February 28. A convenient $30 annual day use pass may be purchased that will allow access to these facilities without paying a fee at the gatehouse. The use of a Golden Age or Golden Access Passport will cut all fees mentioned above in half. East Lofers Bend

Location

The main entrance to Lofers Bend Park is located on the east end of the Whitney Dam on State Highway 22. After turning into the main entrance, follow the signs to East Lofers Bend Park.

Facilities

There are 66 campsites in East Lofers Bend Park. Six of these sites (sites 33 through 38) are "water only" sites and the rest of the sites have water and 30 amp electrical hookups. All sites have an upright BBQ cooker and a ground cooker/fire ring. The park has three restrooms with showers, a trailer dump station, and two boat ramps. One boat ramp is a double lane boat ramp with adequate parking and the other boat ramp is a shallow, single lane ramp. A group camp area with eight electric campsites and a group pavilion may be reserved by calling NRRS at 1-877-444-6777 or online at www.recreation.gov .

Sites 6-27 have water hookups only. All sites have an upright BBQ cooker and a ground cooker/fire ring. The park has three restrooms with showers, a trailer dump station, and a boat ramp. A day use group pavilion and a group camp are also available. The group camp contains six campsites with water and electrical hookups and a group pavilion. McCown Valley

Location

McCown Valley Park is located on the east side, approximately halfway up the lake off of FM 1713 Spur.

Facilities

There are 54 campsites in McCown Valley Park. Thirty-one sites have water and 30 amp electrical hookups (sites 0 - 28, 33, and 35). Fourteen sites have water and 50 amp electrical hookups (sites 32, 34, and 36-47). Seven sites have water hookups only (sites 48-54). Five cabins are also available for overnight camping (sites 61-65). All sites have upright BBQ grills and a ground cooker/fire ring. The park has two restrooms with showers, horseshoe pits, a trailer dump station, and a large, three lane boat ramp. McCown Valley Park also contains one of the two swimming beaches on the lake. A large day use group shelter may be reserved by calling the Whitney Lake Office at 254/622-3332. McCown Valley Day Use

Location

McCown Valley Day Use Park is located adjacent to McCown Valley Park off of FM 1713 Spur.

Facilities

McCown Day Use Park contains seven picnic sites and six beach shelters. The picnic sites have a covered table, an upright BBQ grill, and water close by. The beach shelters have a shelter and an upright BBQ grill. McCown Valley Park also has one of the two swimming beaches on the lake. There are two sand volleyball courts and one restroom available in the park.

Fees

There is a fee of $1 per person (but no more than $4 per vehicle) charged for the use of this area. A convenient $30 annual day use pass may be purchased that will allow access to these facilities without paying a fee at the gatehouse. The use of a Golden Age or Golden Access Passport will cut all fees mentioned above in half. Plowman Creek

Location

Plowman Creek Park is located on the west side of the lake on FM 56 approximately 1 mile south of Kopperl, Texas.

Facilities

There are 34 campsites in Plowman Creek Park. Twenty-two of these sites have water and 30 amp electrical hookups (sites 1-7 and 10 -24). Twelve sites have water hookups only (sites 8, 9, and 25-34). All sites have upright BBQ cookers and a ground cooker/fire ring. The park also has a restroom with showers, a restroom with toilet facilities only, and a trailer dump station.

Hopewell Trail and Equestrian Camping

Trail users can access the 12.5 mile Hopewell Trail at Plowman Creek Park. This centrally-located trailhead allows hikers, mountain bikers and equestrian riders easy access to the trail, and an option to explore one-half of the trail for shorter visits. Visitors can choose to travel north on the trail to Kimball Bend Park, or head south to Lakeside Village and Powelldale Mountain. Overnight equestrian camping is also available adjacent to the trailhead. Campers can choose from 10 RV campsites or primitive camping in the equestrian area.

Riverside

Riverside Park is located downstream of the Whitney Dam (State Highway 22) on both sides of the river.

Facilities

On the west side of the river, Riverside Park has five camp/picnic sites, one restroom (with toilet facilities only), and a fishing platform. On the east side of the river, there is one restroom and a gravel access road to the river. (The access road is closed when floodwater is being released.)

Soldiers Bluff

Soldiers Bluff Park is located on the west end of the Whitney Dam on State Highway 22.

Facilities

There are 14 camp/picnic sites in Soldiers Bluff Park. There is one restroom (with toilet facilities only) and a day use group pavilion.

Steele Creek

Steele Creek Park is located on the west side of the lake off of FM 56 near Lakeside Village, Texas.

Steele Creek Park has 21 camp/picnic sites with ground cookers. Water faucets are located throughout the park. There are two restrooms (with toilet facilities only) and two boat ramps in the park.

Camping, picnicking, and boat launching facilities are free.

Walling Bend

Location

Walling Bend Park is located on the west side of Whitney Lake off of FM 2841.

Facilities

Walling Bend Park has 10 camp/picnic sites, one group pavilion, two restrooms (with toilet facilities only), and two, double lane boat ramps.

Fees

All picnicking, boat launching, group, and camping facilities are free.
