Corps Parks at Whitney Lake
Whitney Lake provides some excellent facilities for camping and picnicing. Click on one of the parks below to learn about the different parks.
Cedar Creek Park
Location
Cedar Creek Park is located on the east side of Whitney Lake off of FM 2604.
Facilities
Cedar Creek Park has 20 camp/picnic sites with a ground cooker/fire ring. Water faucets are located throughout the park. There is one restroom (with toilet facilities only) and one, double lane boat ramp in the park. There is also one group pavilion available in the park, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Fees
Camping, picnicking, and boat launching facilities are free. The group pavilion is available at no charge, and is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Cedron Creek Park
Location
Cedron Creek Park is located on the west side, approximately halfway up the lake on FM 1713.
Seasonal Closure
The campground is usually closed from October 1 to March 31 each year.
Facilities
There are 57 sites in Cedron Creek Park. All sites have water and 30 or 50 amp electrical hookups. All sites also have an upright BBQ cooker and a ground cooker/fire ring. The park also has two restrooms with showers, one small restroom with toilet facilities only, horseshoe pits, a trailer dump station, and a double lane boat ramp. The group camp area contains eight campsites with water and 30 amp electrical hookups. To reserve a site please visit www.recreation.gov

April 1 to September 30: 30 amp sites are $28 per night, 50 amp sites are $30 per night.
Group Camp
$140 per night (2:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. the following day)
Boat Launching
People not camping in the park will have to pay a $5 fee per day to use the boat ramps. Campers do not have to pay a separate launch fee.
USACE Annual Day Use Pass
A convenient $40 annual day use pass may be purchased that will allow use of the boat ramp without paying a fee at the gatehouse. The day use pass can be used at any Corps of Engineers Park in the nation that charges a day use fee (i.e.. boat launch and swimming beach fees). The pass may be purchased at a gatehouse fee machine. You will recive a receipt that may be exchanged for a pass hangtag at the Whitney Lake Office M-F 8:30-4:30.
America the Beautiful Passes
All America the Beautiful Passes cover day use fees. Additionally, some passes offer camping discounts as well.
America the Beautiful Access, Senior Annual, or Senior Lifetime passes give the passholder a 50 percent discount on camping fees. Kimball Bend
Location
Kimball Bend Park is located on the north end of the lake off of State Highway 174.
Facilities
Kimball Bend Park has 35 camp/picnic sites and one restroom. There is a boat ramp located at the park.
HWY 174 Bridge Construction Update
- The Kimball Bend boat ramp is not currently open. TX DOT is in the process of constructing a new bridge across Whitney Lake on HWY 174. The boat ramp will open once that project is complete.
Lofers Bend Day Use
Location
Lofers Bend Day Use Park is a very popular day use area and is conveniently located adjacent to the Whitney Dam on State Highway 22. The main entrance to Lofers Bend Park is located on the east end of the Whitney Dam. After turning into the main entrance, follow the signs to the day use area.
Facilities
The park contains one of the two swimming beaches on the lake and also has a large boat ramp, 12 picnic tables with BBQ grills, and two sand volleyball courts. There is also a large restroom with showers located within the park.
Fees
The day use fee at Lofers Bend Day Use Park is $5. You may pay your day use fee at the fee machine located next to the gatehouse. Please display your receipt on the dash of your vehicle. The $40 USACE Annual Day Use Pass or any America the Beautiful pass will cover day use fees for all Corps of Engineers parks. Please display your pass when parked.
Park Hours
The park opens at 6:00 a.m. and closes at 10:00 p.m. There is a night exit that allows visitors to exit after 10:00 PM
Lofers Bend East
Location
The main entrance to Lofers Bend Park is located on the east end of the Whitney Dam on State Highway 22. After turning into the main entrance, follow the signs to Lofers Bend East.
Seasonal Closure
Lofers Bend East is usually closed from October 1 to March 31 for the winter season.
Facilities
There are 66 campsites in East Lofers Bend Park. Six of these sites (sites 33 through 38) are "water only" sites and the rest of the sites have water and 30 amp electrical hookups. All sites have an upright BBQ cooker and a ground cooker/fire ring. The park has three restrooms with showers, a trailer dump station, and two boat ramps. One boat ramp is a double lane boat ramp with adequate parking and the other boat ramp is a shallow, single lane ramp. Location

There are 68 campsites in West Lofers Bend Park. Sites 1-5, 28-40, and 42- 62 have water and 30 amp electrical hookups. Sites 63-68 have water and 50 amp electrical hookups. Sites 10-13 and 18 have screened shelters. Sites 6-9,14-17,19-27, and 41 have water hookups only. All sites have an upright BBQ cooker and a ground cooker/fire ring. The park has three restrooms with showers, a trailer dump station, and a boat ramp. The group camp contains six campsites with water and electrical hookups and a group pavilion. McCown Valley
Location
McCown Valley Park is located on the east side, approximately halfway up the lake off of FM 1713 Spur.
Facilities
There are 104 campsites in McCown Valley Park. Thirty-four sites have water and 30 amp electrical hookups (sites 0 - 31, 33, and 35). Fifty-three sites have water and 50 amp electrical hookups (sites 32,34,36-37,66,104). thirteen sites have water hookups only (sites 48-60). Five screened shelters are also available for overnight camping (sites 61-65). All sites have upright BBQ grills and a ground cooker/fire ring. The park has two restrooms with showers, horseshoe pits, a trailer dump station, and a large, three lane boat ramp. McCown Valley Park also contains one of the two swimming beaches on the lake. McCown Valley Park also has dedicated equestrian camping amentities near sites 66-75 and 76-104. These loops have multiple horse stalls and are located near access points for the McCown Valley equestrian trails. McCown Valley Day Use
Location
McCown Valley Day Use Park is located adjacent to McCown Valley Park. To visit please enter through the main park entrance and take the first left.
Facilities
McCown Day Use Park contains seven picnic sites and six beach shelters. The picnic sites have a covered table, an upright BBQ grill, and water close by. The beach shelters have a shelter and an upright BBQ grill. McCown Valley Park also has one of the two swimming beaches on the lake. There are two sand volleyball courts and one restroom available in the park.
Fees
The day use fee at McCown Valley Day Use Park is $5. You may pay your day use fee at the fee machine located next to the gatehouse. Please display your receipt on the dash of your vehicle. Plowman Creek
Maintenance Closure
Plowman Creek Park is currently closed due to maintenance issues. The Whitney Lake Staff is working to resolve issues and hope to have the park open by summer 2026.
Location
Plowman Creek Park is located on the west side of the lake on FM 56 approximately 1 mile south of Kopperl, Texas.
Facilities
There are 44 campsites in Plowman Creek Park. 32 of these sites have water and 30 amp electrical hookups (sites 1-7,10-24, and 35-44). Twelve sites have water hookups only (sites 8, 9, and 25-34). All sites have upright BBQ cookers and a ground cooker/fire ring. The park also has a restroom with showers, a restroom with toilet facilities only, and a trailer dump station.
Hopewell Trail and Equestrian Camping
Trail users can access the 12.5 mile Hopewell Trail at Plowman Creek Park. This centrally-located trailhead allows hikers, mountain bikers and equestrian riders easy access to the trail, and an option to explore one-half of the trail for shorter visits. Visitors can choose to travel north on the trail to Kimball Bend Park, or head south to Lakeside Village and Powelldale Mountain. Overnight equestrian camping is also available adjacent to the trailhead. Campers can choose from 10 RV campsites or primitive camping in the equestrian area. Riverside
Location
Riverside Park is located downstream of the Whitney Dam (State Highway 22) on both sides of the river.
Facilities
On the west side of the river, Riverside Park has five camp/picnic sites, one restroom (with toilet facilities only), and a fishing platform. On the east side of the river, there is one restroom and a gravel access road to the river. (The access road is closed when floodwater is being released.)
Soldiers Bluff
Location
Soldiers Bluff Park is located on the west end of the Whitney Dam on State Highway 22.
Facilities
There are 14 camp/picnic sites in Soldiers Bluff Park. There is one restroom (with toilet facilities only) and a day use group pavilion.
Fees
Camping, group, and picnic facilities are free and available on a first come-first serve basis.

Steele Creek
Location
Steele Creek Park is located on the west side of the lake off of FM 56 near Lakeside Village, Texas.

Steele Creek Park has 21 camp/picnic sites with ground cookers. Water faucets are located throughout the park. There are two restrooms (with toilet facilities only) and two boat ramps in the park.
Fees
Camping, picnicking, and boat launching facilities are free.
Walling Bend
Location
Walling Bend Park is located on the west side of Whitney Lake off of FM 2841.
Facilities
Walling Bend Park has 10 camp/picnic sites, one group pavilion, two restrooms (with toilet facilities only), and two, double lane boat ramps.
