Trails at Lake Georgetown

The San Gabriel River Trail (Goodwater Loop) is a 26 mile rugged trail for both hiking and mountain biking. Winding through dense Juniper Forest, Hardwood Bottomlands, and Prairie Grasslands, the Goodwater Loop extends completely around the lake, finishing atop the North San Gabriel Dam, and offers scenic views of the lake and the surrounding undisturbed lands. For the mountain bikers, this trail offers opportunities for all experience levels with sections ranging from flat single track to steep technical areas. The Goodwater Loop is designated as an EPIC trail through the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) thanks, in part, to our partnership with the Austin Ridge Riders volunteer group.

Another section of trail extends from Overlook Park eastward toward the San Gabriel River and the City of Georgetown trail system. This section of the trail is paved and ADA accessible. Parking is provided at Cedar Breaks Park, Tejas Camp, Russell Park, Overlook Park, the Nature Center, and the Stilling Basin on Booty's Road. Closing times for parking areas are posted near the entrances.

Remember to plan your trek or ride ahead of time, bring a cellphone, pack (and drink) plenty of water and gear up accordingly before tackling the trail. And most importantly, have fun on your adventure!

A valid pass, online payment, or camping reservation is required for entry into Cedar Breaks, Jim Hogg, and Russell Parks. Payment is no longer accepted in the gate houses at the parks. Payment or passes must be purchased online through Recreation.gov or by scanning the QR-codes when entering the park. Your vehicle license plate may be used to verify compliance.

USACE Annual Passes may be purchased online through Recreation.gov or by scanning the QR-Codes on signs near the front of our parks. Paper annual passes must be redeemed for a plastic hangtag at the park gate houses within 14 days of purchase. Gate houses are open Friday - Sunday 10:00 am - 6:00 pm (April - September). Gate house hours may be reduced during winter months. To find out more about where and when to pick up your pass, contact the Lake Georgetown Office M-F 8:00 am - 4:30 pm at 512-930-5253.

Restrooms and rest stops are provided along portions of the trail.
