Water Safety Programs

Attention all boaters the winter season is upon us, remember to be safe at all times while on the lake and try to prevent hypothermia. Be sure that you have enough life jackets for persons aboard, and that they are a proper fit as well. Check the operation of your boat before launchig, make sure that you have plenty of fuel and oil, check your engine for starting operations, check your stirring (make sure that your motor and prop move in the direction that your stirring), check your horn, check your navigation lights, check your battery for a full charge . Let someone know where you are going in case of accident; leave a plan with a relative or friend. Be sure that you have all safety equipment; fire extinguisher, throw ring or pillow, air horn, kill switch, a paddle, and most importantly life jackets. Enjoy your time at Lake Wright Patman but do it safely.

Please take a few moments to read the following precautions that should be taken when at the lake.

  1. Learn to swim.
  2. Never swim alone.
  3. Swim only in designated areas.
  4. Watch children at all times. NEVER leave a child unattended while near the water.
  5. Wear a lifejacket. Children under the age of 13 are required by law to wear PFDs while on the water in the State of Texas.
  6. Alcohol and water do not mix. NEVER consume alcohol while boating or swimming.
  7. Never rely on toys such as inner tubes and rafts to stay afloat.
  8. Do not over estimate your ability to swim.
  9. Never dive into lakes or rivers.
  10. Boaters should observe all warning signs and buoys. Please use caution when boating in unfamiliar waters.
