Volunteer News and Events
      • Sam Rayburn Lake-National Public Lands Day (NPLD):  On 25 September 2010, a trail cleaning project was held at San Augustine Park on Sam Rayburn Lake for National Public Lands Day.  The event included all rangers and fifty plus volunteer boy scouts.  Projects included moving logs downed from the previous hurricanes away from the trail edge, widening the trail in areas that were getting too narrow, and replacing the old entrance kiosk and adding two additional smaller kiosks.  The playground at the beginning of the trail was cleaned up and all the underbrush obstructing the entrance to the area was cleared out.  Now the parents will feel much more comfortable allowing their children to play in an area they can observe.  The event was a tremendous success and we hope to do more trail projects with volunteers in the near future.
