Lake Information

Lake O' The Pines is a part of the comprehensive plan for flood control in the Red River Basin, which is under supervision of the District Engineer, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers District, Fort Worth, Texas.

The project was authorized by the Flood Control Act approved 24 July 1946, Public Law No. 526, 79th congress, 2nd session, and is under general supervision of the Secretary of the Army, the Chief of Engineers, and the Division Engineer, U.S. Army Engineer Division, Southwestern, Dallas, Texas.

In addition to the primary purpose of flood control, the land and water areas of the reservoir bring other public benefits, including the development of public use facilities, the conservation of fish and wildlife, and the provision of domestic and industrial water supply. Local, state, and Federal agencies have cooperated in planning the development of areas for use by the public.

Initiated in January 1955, construction is now complete with the exception of continued development of public use facilities. The reservoir was placed in operation 11 December 1959.

Natural scenic beauty and varied recreational activities combine to make Lake O' The Pines one of the Nation's great recreational areas.

Necessities for your relaxation are easily accessible from all areas of the lake.

Good roads, swimming beaches, shelters, picnic areas with tables, outdoor fireplaces, drinking water, and sanitary facilities have been provided for your use. Boats, tackle, and bait can be purchased from local businesses.
