Canyon Lake Information

The Canyon Lake Office is located at the southern end of the Canyon Lake Dam along the South Access Road and just off FM 306 in Canyon Lake , Texas. Canyon Lake is starts at river mile 303 of the Guadalupe River in Comal County and continues upstream for approximately 20 miles. The project is located 12 miles northwest of New Braunfels, Texas and 38 miles northeast of San Antonio, Texas.

Canyon Lake has 93 miles of shoreline with a normal capacity of 378,852 acre-feet of water at its conservation pool. During flood events, the lake has a maximum capacity to hold upwards of 1,129,300 acre-feet of water making it instrumental in its main mission of flood damage reduction.

Canyon Lake was completed in 1964 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to assist with flood damage reduction within the Guadalupe River Basin. The lake also functions as a water supply, source of hydropower, fish and wildlife habitat as well as providing recreation opportunities for the public.
